Are these people evil? Why did they torture 20-year old Megan Williams?
Megan was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from a toilet. She was choked with a cord, sexually abused, and had hot water poured over her...
Why?
Because she was black.
Rush Dozier, author of Why We Hate, would probably have a few theories as to why this happened. So would Roy Baumeister, author of "Four Roots of Evil". What do you think?
The struggle for human rights continues worldwide on a daily basis. Whether it's a struggle to prevent starvation in Africa, assert one's civil rights in the United States, or avoid torture in Latin America or Asia because of one's political opinion, these are all issues for Hate, Hope and Human Rights

This is awful. I just read several articles, all of which stressed upon the brutality of the hate crime. It is astonishing to know that there are still people out there who are capable of doing just terrible things to another person simply because of the color of the person's skin. It somehow made it sicker to know that the relationship between some of the culprits was that of mother and daughter. I know that the sex of a person committing the crime shouldn't be of any significance but somehow the fact that these women were involved makes the crime seem even more barbaric if that it even possible. They should all be met with the most severe punishment and be made to spend the rest of their lives in prison. Somehow even that doesn't seem like punishment enough for what they have done.
I agree with Aditi, it is truly amazing that an entire family is corrupt enough to perform these actions soley based on race. The mother should recieve the harshest punishment because it is clear that she taught her children to act this way against people. It is often debated wether the difference between people is a result of nature or nurture. I don't believe that someone could be filled with so much hate to commit these actions unless he/she was brought up in a setting that taught them to act this way.
This is absolutely disgusting. I agree with robbycano23 that it is amazing that the entire family could be actively involved in this brutal human rights abuse. I don't see how there could be any controversy on the issue of this family's punishment, especially considering that Williams was targeted because of her race and her gender. Hate crimes just cannot be happening in 2007. It's extremely disheartening to read about. I hope that Williams and her family are someday able to heal from this traumatic event.
This is morally repugnant. I am disturbed as to how far people would go just to see others suffer. What really bothers me is that the family was involved in this evil act. How could they do this to her? This is the 21st century, this should not be taking place.
