Lt. Col. Tharcisse Muvunyi was found guilty of the crime of genocide, whereas the fromer Rwandan Mayor Jean Mpambara was acquited.
Should the mayor have been found guilty given that he must have known what was going on, but didn't do anything?

This article does not give alot of information about the circumstances surrounding the genocide and the Mayer and Lt Col's roles in the killing. If the UN tribunal court acquitted Mpambara, then there was probably not enough evidence to convict him. Because this article does not give alot of specific details about the evidence presented in the case, I do not feel that I can condemn Mpambara. I trust the findings of the UN court partially because it has been sanctioned by the United Nations, which has substantial international support, but also because I have faith that the UN trials are carried out in fair and humane ways. In other words, the article fails to prrovide evidence that Mpambara MUST have known about the genocide, so I cannot think that he should have been convicted.
