What's Wrong with this Picture?

In a recent Washington Post article, "Global Protests Call for UN Intervention in Darfur", I was struck by a picture posted by Reuter's photographer, Luke Macgregor. A guardsman wearing full traditional uniform is walking by peaceful protestors with a sub-machine gun. The last time I saw a guardsman in London (albeit, it was a while ago) he was not carrying a sub-machine gun but what at least appeared to be a ceremonial rifle.
These times are certainly achanging!

Have you noticed that all of the protesting people in this photograph are black? (for a larger image, click on the link and then click on the picture as it appears in the article.) Is this a mere coincidence or are there political overtones to this message?
I think that this is a mere coincidence. Although some of you may call me naive, I think it is reasonable to surmise that there were many other protesters from other races and ethnic descents. All soldiers were probably equipped with these machine guns, not just those in this area where black individuals were protesting.
