Gays in the Military are Okay if they Die for their Country -- but not if they're "Out"

Wow. What a revelation. One of the leading generals in the U.S. has called gays "immoral" -- and is strongly in support of the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy in the U.S. military. So are we fighting a holy war or what? What does his opinion have to do with the fact that there are actually gay men and lesbians serving in the U.S. military -- and get this -- dying for the U.S. But I guess it's okay if they're dead gays and lesbians -- at least they didn't "out" themselves. I can only imagine how those gays and lesbians serving and dying for the U.S. must feel when they hear their commander's views on their morality. I wonder if General Pace has ever thought about that? Should this man really be heading up the U.S military effort in Iraq?

"I'd say 'immoral' is letting our own injured and maimed soldiers sleep in their own urine when you all knew about it and didn't give a damn. Immoral is lying to the American people in order to get us into a war. Immoral is sending hundreds of thousands of US soldiers into battle without the proper armor. Immoral is risking the lives of our soldiers by still not having a plan for victory or exit." Shame on you! You and the Bush administration are nothing more than hypocrites.

Hey, what would be wrong with a pro-life person saying that abortion is immoral? No one ever condemns this statement. Because…pro lifers have a right to believe that abortion is wrong. No one has ever asked a minister, average Joe, Presidential candidate, or Pentagon employee to apologize for saying “I believe that abortion is immoral”. Have they? I’ve certainly never seen that happen. Why is it, then, that while I can believe abortion is immoral, the minute that I say homosexuality is immoral, bam, i’m a biggot with no liberty to my own opinion? If I say that 2 straight people cohabitating are living an immoral life-style, no one cares. If, however, I assert that 2 gays living together are immoral, then, bam, I’m one serious biggot.
Sounds live reverse prejudice in action here.
Why should gays receive special exemption from free speech?

MadMax:
this is not about a private individual expressing his or her opinion about a contentious social issue: this is a top military official expressing his personal opinion on a topic that directly effects the lives of the gay and lesbian servicemen and women beneath him. Shame on General Pace and on Bill Clinton for supporting such a ridiculous policy. This is not about free speech -- it is about a policy which necessitates gays and lesbians to live in shame and silence while protecting the lives of all American citizens -- whether they are heterosexual or homosexual!

Ok Madmax, let me give you some constitutional law to support my future comment. Have you ever heard of the flag salute cases? Well, in 1940, the Gobotis children took their case to the supreme court in which they desired not to say the pledge of allegiance because it had the word God in it and it was against their religious beliefs. Well, they lost that case, but in a letter from Justice Stone (dissenting opinion) writing to Justice Frankfurter (Majority opinion), Justice stone laid out one very important factor from a footnote in a previous case called the Caroline Products case. Justice Stone made reference to the extreme importance of protecting the minority from the majority. In this instance, gays and lesbians are the minority and they should have every ample opportunity and right a heterosexual individual should have. 3 years later in 1943, in West Virginia v. Barnette, Gobitis was overruled by usuing numerous factors but a very important one was the protection of minorities from the dominant majority that this country was built on. This is a caselaw requirement of the constitution now, meaning that no ignorant legislature can come in and change it because they feel like it. Therefore, in this specific instance, the homosexuals enrolled in the defense of this country are the minority. There is no reason for a high ranking official to come out and say something that would bash someone who is helping the country out in our time of need. You saw how much controversy Tim Hardaway's comments were, and he is just an ignorant basketball player. Imagine having to follow the commands of someone you have no respect or honor for. Respect and honor are earned, not just given out because someone has a higher rank. And here, General Pace has not earned either honor nor respect.

Oh please John you're talking out of your butt. Gays have joined the military knowing that in order to remain in good standing they are not permitted to be “openly gay”. There is nothing new here. The last I knew we have an all volunteer military. They joined agreeing to this directive.

I applaud General Peter Pace for taking the correct stand on this matter. His comments are right on target. There is NO REASON for him to apologize to anyone. His personal beliefs are his own and NO ONE need apologize for their personal beliefs.

These gay advocacy groups need to sit down and shut up! There is NOTHING “outrageous” or “insensitive” in what General Pace said in the interview. Pace answered one question with a very straightforward and truthful answer. “The US Military’s mission fundamentally rests on the trust, confidence, cooperation amongst its members, and the homosexual lifestyle does not comply with that kind of trust and confidence and therefore is not supported within the US military. I’ll leave it at that.”

Homosexuality is an immoral act. It is NOT natural, normal or moral. The lifestyle choice is rife with promiscuity, and infidelity — all matters that point to trust, confidence and cooperation. General Pace should be applauded for standing his ground and speaking the truth.

I, personally, plan to be active in the fight against these homosexual advocacy groups as they seek to villainize General Pace. Here’s hoping you will join the fight as well. It’s high time conservatives (especially Christians) stand up for our beliefs and convictions.

One other thing; why does the homosexual community insist on telling me WHO THEY ARE SLEEPING WITH? I don’t advertise; why do they? Seems lot of these problems are self-made.

madmax: You are entitled to your opin ion and because you chose to share it, I just want to say this... with your mindset, YOU WILL miss out on many amazing people, YOU WILL live a life that involves hatred and putting judgement on people that are really no different than you. And that saddens me - for your sake I hope somehow you change - your words were jaw dropping, and extreme. "Homosexuality is an immoral act. It is NOT natural, normal or moral. The lifestyle choice is rife with promiscuity, and infidelity — all matters that point to trust, confidence and cooperation. General Pace should be applauded for standing his ground and speaking the truth." Have you ever known someone who is a homosexual? Like, actually gotten to know them? You should. How do you KNOW it is a choice? Rife with promiscuity - are you saying homosexuals are the only ones living promiscuous lives? BOTTOM LINE: exclude yourself from the world, and you will miss out - shame on you for being so insensitive, judgmental, and outright pathetic - we are ALL human beings... so I pity you madmax.

Madmax the thing htat you dont seem to be understanding is the connection between the soldiers and General Pace. You are confused, the General is a direct superior to many of these samechastized homosexuals. Madmax i believe in free speech, you have the right to be a biggot, however I do take issue with a general who isolates a select few of his subordinates. If you are as tudent madmax, lets say your teacher said "anyone that is closed minded shouldnt take my class because I dont like them" Would you then screaming from the tops of towers about her right to speak her mind. You see its not about people freedom of speech(or thought). If I teach first grade I cant support Child Porn.. that would isolate the very people that I am governing...
