Overpopulation?

The Zimbabwe Government is juggling the task of overpopulation. The ‘informal’ shacks and markets had been burned or destroyed. The government said it would try and compensate for the people who no longer have homes, however, what if people do not want to leave. They have made a life in this area and want to stay, now they are being thrown out. What do you all think?

It truly is a terrible situation, but sadly, there doesn't seem to be quick fix. If the government is providing alternative housing, it seems reasonable to ask the people to go there. It sounds like infrastructure in addition to extreme poverty are the culprits. It is wonderful that the Chinese have built houses for the people in the slums, but it doesn't do much good if the people can't get to their jobs. This problem requires an infrastructure change.

But the point is that how can the infrastructure of poverty stricken African countries be developed? Plagued by corruption, the governments in most of the third world countries have proved to be incapable of providing for their people. However, it is not fair to only blame the governments of these countries. As Karl Marx would put it, most of the African countries were looted ruthlessly by imperialists who plundered these countries to "accumulate capital." Where is the Empire upon which sun never used to set? Where are those proud Germans who wanted to make a name for their Fatherland ? Where is the French Empire that wanted to dominate the entire globe? How ironic, most of the former colonies gained independence decades ago, but these colonies still remain failed states because of the chaos that the 'superior white masters' left behind them. From inefficient bureaucratic setups to educational systems designed to produce subservient middle classes, the relics of colonization have stranded the African countries in a vicious cycle of poverty and underdevelopment.

Can an overpopulated country even provide enough housing for all of those who lost their previous housing? If one looks at South Africa, there are major problems with the population and housing. There are strips of housing in shanty towns burning down frequently. The government cannot build houses fast enough, nor does it have the resources to accomplish this. Although if I were in the situation where I was given compensational housing, I feel I would take it. Life happens and you have to make the best of it.
